July 25—Conmemoración del Estado Libre Asociado (Commonwealth of Puerto Rico)

July 25 in Puerto Rico, were I was born, we celebrate this great holiday. Here is a quick description of what the holiday is. And I wanted to share some of my culture, music, parade of the Mascaras, Instruments  Food, and Clothing that have been used for many years.

A local constitution was approved by a Constitutional Convention on February 6, 1952, ratified by the U.S. Congress, approved by President Truman on July 3 of that year, and proclaimed by Gov. Muñoz Marín on July 25, 1952, the anniversary of the 1898 arrival of U.S. troops. Puerto Rico adopted the name of Estado Libre Asociado (literally translated as “Free Associated State”), officially translated into English as Commonwealth, for its body politic.

  1. Great pics and the food look sooo good. My family is from Panama. So our cusines are very similar especially the plantains. We fry our in a pan until they are crisp and then add a little salt as a snack!
